Selank is anxiolytic hepapeptide (seven amino acids in length) with immune stimulating and anti-anxiety effects. Selank has shown immunomodulatory effects by suppressing IL-6 levels.

Selank may enhance learning speed. One rat study comparing Selank head to head with Piracetam showed that Selank significantly increased the learning process in rats with poor learning abilities, with apparent effects after the first dose on day one.

It has also been shown to be very effective in treating anxiety. It is believed to be much more effective than any other peptide in treating general anxiety disorder.

Two separate animal studies have shown Selank to be effective in treating depression that was inherited genetically, and in treating emotional outbursts that can accompany depression. Several rat studies have shown Selank to help with managing alcohol withdrawal symptoms, and it has been used to manage alcohol abstinence syndrome.
